The Commandos find themselves facing an enemy more awesome than anything mere human foes could present. They are on the planet Tambora seeking information about a stolen shipment of Navy arms when they realize the volcano dominating the world’s island capital is no longer dormant. The challenges confronting them are enormous, perhaps insurmountable. They must first convince the local population, who hate and fear off-worlders far more than the natural force with which they have always lived, of that fact. Once they do, they must still struggle with the task of evacuating the very low-tech population before the inevitable and imminent irruption. Connor and Sogan remain until the very end, with the eruption in full progress, in an attempt to save three youths who concealed themselves rather than evacuate. Can they escape annihilation in the massive cataclysm?

The commando team has an unexpected enemy the volcanic nature of the Stromboli world is back on "active", ruining Jake and Bethe's honeymoon, and the team is dispatched to convince the reluctant inhabitants the colony is doomed. The humans prove more powerful than the volcans, and the team has its work cut out for it.
This I actually liked better because Sogan was so quiet (mentally speaking). The drone about his being recognized as an Arcturian and gunned down immediately as a result never lets up, though, and it's obvious he is recognized over and over again... Come on, how much more of that?
Still, a pretty good adventure and therefore, recommended.

While Jake and Bethe are enjoying their honeymoon on the planet Tambora - a lush tropical planet that has no continents, just islands and one massively dormant volcano - Pele - Varn Tarl Sogan, Islaen Connor, and Bandit are enjoying a bit of downtime, when a message from the honeymooners alert the rest of the Star Commandos team to potential trouble in paradise. A quasi-religious sect is determined to overthrow the existing government and expel all off-worlders. But as the Star Commando team investigates and prepares to take action - a far deadlier menace makes it's presence felt and known. Now Varn Tarl Sogan and Islaen Connor must figure out a way to evacuate a planet while dealing with homicidal cultists and tradition-bound Tamora government officials who are bulking at using technology to save the planetary population.

Love the series and this is one of the best of the series. Worth the time to read all twelve.
I have been a fan of the Star Commando series since they were first released. In this re-write of Fire Planet Ms. Griffin went above and beyond to add new depth and some new characters as well. It is an excellent read and will keep you turning the pages wondering just what is going to happen next.
Another in the Star Commandos series that I love to read and re-read! Space Opera is a favorite genre of mine, especially when there are such strong characters, female and male, doing the adventurous saving the world battles. The writing is excellent, the stories interesting and engrossing, and the characters very special people indeed!
I really like the Star Commando series and hope for more.
